Effects Of School Violence Essay - 1022 Words
Reducing School Violence and Creating Peace for Children School violence is a major controversial problem around the world. It plays an important role for the future of children and impacts the environment children are growing up in. The effects of school violence can lead severe mental and physical trauma for both perpetrators and victim along with the loss of human lives. The main cause of school violence is a combination of weak community relations and a lack of a firm hand within schools as well as communities. Our society need to demand that schools must be created safe for our children and no child should live with fear to attend school. If a student is being picked on or bullied, he or she will not want to communicate with others.â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Unsafe learning environments create a climate of fear and insecurity and a perception and this reduces the quality of education for all students. Children who face lack of love and affection may also become violent. Children from dysfunctional families are less likely to func tion successfully at school (Garnet, 2013). This is the case with many students who do not have the attention from their parents or might have alcoholic parents. Students may also involve in violence where they feel they are alone. This is whereby the teacher is not helping a student through difficulties, which leads to frustration. It is the teacherââ¬â¢s duty to guide the student in his or her needs. A student may also result to violence when he/she is unsure of his career or future and hence proper guidance and help is required. Children require support from parents as well as teachers to know they are not alone and can count on them. The U.S. Department of Education recommends having adults visibly present through the school building, this encourages parents to visit the school (Meadows, 2007). The approach I would take to end school violence would be to train school staff members to be observant and respond to student needs before they result in unhealthy behaviors. The staf f needs to have a good communication with the children and be as understanding. Tradition! free essay sample
Tradition plays an important role in the life of all cultures. Discuss a tradition your family, school, or community observes and explain its impact on you. We stand at our panels and anticipate the question. The lights dim. The mood is tense. Suddenly, she storms into the room, dressed in a black trench coat and wearing red glasses. Music plays in the background, intensifying the pressure. Her voice pierces the room as she announces, Lets play The Weakest Cousin.' It is show time. I look out over the audience and see a room filled with family. I think, This is my year. I am going to win! I am ready for any question. The game begins; I feel confident. The piercing voice hurls questions as my cousins, Caroline, Andrew and Josh are eliminated with the phrase, You are the Weakest Cousin Good-bye. The last round arrives, and Matt and I are the only cousins left. We will write a custom essay sample on Tradition! or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Quickly, the host flips to the next index card and reads the final question. The answer will crown a winner. That crown is rightfully mine, but I have never beaten Matt. Who wrecked Aunt Rhondas brand-new Volvo the day she got it? Matt yells, Aunt Glenda! The host turns to Matt and says, No. Your answer is incorrect. She then turns to me. If you can answer correctly, you win the game. My heart pounds. My palms sweat. This is my moment. Everyone sits on the edges of their seats as I concentrate on Aunt Rhondas Volvo, and who in the world wrecked it. At the last second, the answer comes to me and I yell, Aunt Donna! The host turns to Matt and says, You are the Weakest Cousin good-bye. She turns to me and proclaims, Congratulations! You are the strongest cousin. Maybe it is an infatuation with game shows, or maybe my mothers side of the family is just plain odd. Ever since I can remember, we have performed parodies of game shows. While most families express what they are thankful for and talk about the pilgrims on Thanksgiving, my cousins and I are busy creating the family entertainment for an after-dinner show. Over the years, we have produced versions of Family Feud and Jeopardy, Hollywood Squares, Who Wants to be a Millionaire? and Wheel of Fortune. The show changes each year, but the idea remains the same, as we adapt popular shows to our family. We all get a huge thrill from the hilarious comments we make about one another. Every year I stand at my contestants panel, looking out at my family, and am overcome with joy. Nana Ruth and Bruce look on with a smile. My mom and Aunt Glenda cannot stop laughing, and my dad usually just looks confused. Each face represents the love we share. There really is no Weakest Cousin here. I am so blessed to be a member of this slightly odd family.

The United States has a alone tribunal system. One of the elements that make it a alone system is the judicial choice procedure. The makings. method of choice and election and remotion from the bench vary from province to province. The mean individual would believe there would be a Constitutional or statutory making to function as a justice. This is non the instance in the United States ( Judicial Process in America 8th edition pg. 125 chapter 6 ) . The provinces of Pennsylvania and Arizona have their ain docket when it comes to the judicial choice procedure. In the province of Pennsylvania justnesss must run into the basic makings to function on the bench that the province has in topographic point ( World Wide Web. pacourts. us ) . These makings include. being a United States citizen and must hold lived in the province for at least one twelvemonth ( World Wide Web. pacourts. us ) . Each judicial must besides run into the age demand to function every bit good. We will write a custom essay sample on Pennsylvania and Arizonaââ¬â¢s Judicial Selections Essay Sample or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page A justice can non function. if they are under the age of 20 one or older than 70 ( World Wide Web. pacourts. us ) . Each judicial must be a member of the Bar of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and besides keep a rigorous criterion of behavior ( World Wide Web. pacourts. us ) . Once these basic makings are met. they are so ready to hopefully be elected. Harmonizing to the judicial choice web site. Pennsylvania does non utilize the Judicial Nominating Commissions as their method to choosing a justness to function on the bench ( World Wide Web. judicialselctions. us ) . The justnesss run for election to derive a place in the tribunals. They do this by candidacy and acquiring the necessary financess from contributions and their political party. Elections in the province are held in uneven numbered old ages. Once a justness is elected they can function an limitless sum of footings until the compulsory retirement age of 70 and are retained or re-elected by electors. Appellate Courts and Courts of Common Pleas Judgess serve 10 twelvemonth footings. All other tribunal justnesss such as. Magisterial District and Traffic Court Judgess serve six twelvemonth footings ( World Wide Web. pacourts. us ) . If there are any vacancies before an election they can be filled by the gubernational assignment ( World Wide Web. pacourts. us ) . Now every province has a behavior policy for a judicial that is functioning on the bench. In Pennsylvania. a justice can be removed in two ways. The first manner they can be removed is if the judicial behavior board finds likely cause to register charges against the justice. They will so show it to the tribunal of judicial subject. From at that place. the tribunal of judicial subject has the authorization to manus down countenances and remotion from office ( World Wide Web. judicialselection. us ) . The 2nd manner a justice could be removed is by the house of representatives and is convicted by two tierces senate. In the province of Arizona. the judicial procedure plants on a different graduated table. The makings to go a justice in the province of Arizona are more of a high criterion than they are in Pennsylvania. In the province of Arizona 1 must be licensed to pattern jurisprudence before they can sit on the bench. To have a place on the Supreme Court. a justice must hold ten yearsââ¬â¢ experience practising jurisprudence. To function on the lower tribunals a justice needs a minimal five yearsââ¬â¢ experience to acquire a place ( World Wide Web. judgepedia. org ) . Like the province of Pennsylvania. Arizona has a compulsory retirement age of 70 old ages old. On the other manus. on can non function as a justice until they are 30 old ages of age ( World Wide Web. judgepedia. org ) . The choice procedure to go a judicial in the province of Arizona is besides different than Pennsylvania. In the province of Arizona. there are no held elections for justnesss to function on the bench. Justices are selected to the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals by the Judicial Nominating Commissions. This is besides known as the virtue choice ( World Wide Web. judgepedia. com ) . When it comes to Arizonaââ¬â¢s Superior Court. they are selected by the Commission choice in counties transcending the population of 250. 000. In the other 13 counties. the Judgess are selected in the non- partizan election of Judgess ( World Wide Web. judgepedia. org ) . However if there is a vacancy on the bench. incoming new justnesss submit applications to the Arizona Commission on Appellate Court Appointments. From at that place. they form a list of possible justnesss and so the governor picks one from that list to function. One thing the province of Pennsylvania and Arizona has in common is their codification of behavior policy. Justices can be removed in three ways in the province of Arizona. The first manner they can be removed is to be impeached by a bulk ballot of the house of representatives and convicted by two tierces ballot of the Senate ( World Wide Web. judicialselection. us ) . The 2nd manner they can be removed is by the Supreme Court on the recommendations of the committee of judicial behavior. Finally a justice can be capable to remember an election. It is instead surprising that each province has their ain manner of choosing and electing justnesss to the bench. One would presume all 50 provinces would hold the same format when choosing justnesss to function. It is even more lurid that Pennsylvania does non even necessitate to pattern jurisprudence earlier functioning as a justness. and the province of Arizona does non even let the citizens to vote their justnesss into the tribunals. This is what makes the United States judicial procedure so alone. Mentions Carp. Robert A. . Ronald Stidham. and Kenneth L. Free Essays on Man And Aviation
Man and Flight Manââ¬â¢s dream of flying has been apparent almost as long as mankind himself. However, the concept of an aircraft has only been around for approximately two hundred years. Before this time, man tried to fulfill this dream by mimicking the birds. They first built machines called ornithopters to utilize mans own power to propel himself through the air. It did not take long for the inventors to realize that this concept was not practical for human flight. It took about twenty more years for technology to catch up. Beginning around 1783, a few aeronauts, as they were known, made daring uncontrolled flights in ââ¬Å"lighter-than-airâ⬠balloons, but it was soon realized that this was not a practical way to fly either. It wasnââ¬â¢t until the early nineteenth century that Sir George Cayley designed the first true fixed wing flying machine. His design used a kite mounted to a stick with a moveable tail and rows of flappers under the wings for thrust. Cayleyââ¬â¢s craft however, still did not utilize the principle of engine propulsion. In 1900, a man named of Gustave Whitehead had been building and flying gliders for the Boston Aeronautical Society when he decided to start experimenting with a flying machine of his own. His design, which had foldable wings and a motor, took roughly a year and a half to construct. Although highly controversial, Whitehead claimed that on August 14, 1901 he piloted the worldââ¬â¢s first motorized flight, which was approximately two years before the Wright Brothers infamous flight in Kitty Hawk. On this day, Whitehead had a series of four flights the longest was said to cover one and a half miles at an altitude of two hundred feet. These notable claims remain in question to this day due to fact that Whitehead failed to record flight attempts and successes throughout his experiments. The only data for any of his experiments are estimates of witnesses who were present at the flights. (Gustave Whitehe... Hedda Gabler, examine her character. How does she arouse both sympathy Essay
Hedda Gabler, examine her character. How does she arouse both sympathy and scorn Using support from the play, explain and justify Shaw's observation about Hedda's character and the difficulty in playing it - Essay Example She tries to evade Tesman; even she does not hesitate to allow her ex-lover Ejlert Là ¸vborg to commit suicide. She rather provokes him by giving him a pistol. It is not that she unsympathetically or villainously commits this crime of provoking Lovborgââ¬â¢s suicide; rather she does so to assert her being in her ability to possess and manipulate her romantic hero whom she once dumped because of his recklessly free nature. It is true that she is unsympathetic towards Lovborg and others, including Tesman and Aunt Julle, who represent the social restrictions. Though she cannot but be unsympathetic to them, she herself bears secret sympathy for them, as George Bernard Shaw, in a letter to Elizabeth Robbins, says, ââ¬Å"You were sympathetically unsympathetic, which was the exact solution of the central difficulty of playing Hedda.â⬠() Hedda, a fancy-flyer entrapped by the social expectations of wifehood, is continually torn apart by her sense of the standards of appearance and her love for freedom. Her ââ¬Å"aimless desire for freedomâ⬠makes her reproachful towards those who may meddle in her desire. In the very beginning of the play, Hedda is found to take savage delight in manipulating people to achieve her end. She instinctively hates Tessmanââ¬â¢s relatives and family. This is because her expectation of an aristocrat life is not fulfilled and also the boundary of Tessmanââ¬â¢s household does not allow her to enjoy the freedom. Hedda has an extremely freedom loving mind. In the beginning, she hates pregnancy, motherhood ââ¬Å"make a claim on her freedomâ⬠(Ibsen 45). She does not like to be a mother, because it would bind her more with the duties and responsibilities. Like any typical woman of Ibsenââ¬â¢s plays, she is a fancy-flyer who has been stuck into harsh reality. Her high background shows that she has been pampered in her fatherââ¬â¢s house. Being devoid of any knowledge reality, she tries to dominate matters,

Critiquing an Argument Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Critiquing an Argument - Essay Example hortest course the later on he says that one leaves everything he has including family to take a walk I donââ¬â¢t think an idler who said to be the holy landers can even have a good family or job to leave n take a walk n to add on that if one is successful and has a family and he owns something why should he or she go on a walk the so called holy land which even doesnââ¬â¢t exist in real sense (Murphy 45). It requires a direct dispensation from Heaven to become a walker. You must be born into the family of the Walkers. This is not true because God canââ¬â¢t let someone become a walker and canââ¬â¢t allow one be born a beggar. Some commitment to religious practices is fantasy. If one is going to saunter through the woods and over the hills and fields how is he or she going to preserve their health, mechanics and shopkeepers spend their afternoons sited with their legs crossed yet they are to use their legs doing something important to earn a living so as not to become holy Landers (Lewin 22). In Thoreauââ¬â¢s mindset and observation, women do not like their place in society. This is because they are expected to just sit at homes while men do all the work and walking. For men, the indoor activities increase only when they are growing old. This is not such a fair assessment but he strongly believes in how women are bored and this is shown by the use of capital letters that ââ¬Å"I have ground to suspect that most of them do not STAND it at allâ⬠(Murphy 85). Walking is considered as a catalyst to ungodliness. This Thoreau believes because he states that even great philosophers had to import woods to themselves instead of going out into the woods. Walking in my opinion does not make one forget about their duties and responsibilities (Lewin 34). Thoreau disagrees and believes one can walk in body without getting into the act in spirit. The author is a believer in walks only that he doubts if the society sees any good in them. He is an avid walker as he has made it almost a

The issue of prostitution Essay Example for Free
The issue of prostitution Essay The issue of prostitution is usually treated and represented in two different ways ââ¬â the adherents of traditional values unambiguously label this phenomenon as appalling vice that is in full discord with normal, let alone pious, life. They point out at the results the oldest profession produces on an individual who gives or gets that service, and on a society with all its moral principles, ethical standards, requirements and taboos. Sexually transmitted diseases, human trafficking, slavery, personal degradation and other by-products of prostitution are quite strong arguments for its prohibition or, at least, severe limitation. The second approach is liberal-like, it posits the legitimacy of prostitution appealing to the freedom of choice, pluralism, natural needs and even the inevitability of eradicating this kind of service. It is often said that women choose that occupation themselves, and men are not forced to visit them ââ¬â everything is based on the free will of both parties, and the others, those who are not envolved in it, should not have any concerns for that. Nickie Roberts, for instance, writes that ââ¬Å"it is implicit in the demand that the women have control over their own bodies that they also have their rights to sell their own sexual services, if they wish toâ⬠(qtd. in Jeffreys 129-130). Claiming to support freedom, such a position in fact justifies prostitution with the help of liberal, pluralistic rhetoric, and it does not seem to be sincere as it predominantly focuses on the apology of prostitution after general introductory declarations about freedom, choice etc. Thus, the prevailing argument in a pro-prostitution discourse is ââ¬Å"choiceâ⬠. Let us have a more careful look at the sphere of ââ¬Å"sexual servicesâ⬠(ibid. ). Do all those women really appeared in that position completely voluntarily, or maybe they have been dreaming of that profession since their childhood and their dreams have successfully come true? I guess the 15-year-old girl from New York was not intending to be advertised on Craigslist for prostitution in Maryland, she was going to Montgomery County ââ¬Å"for a modeling photo shootâ⬠(Morse). There cannot be seen any free choice in Jasmine Caldwellââ¬â¢s returning to the street after escaping her pimp and being abused by a policemen as well (Kristof). And how many other adult and especially juvenile females are decoyed or forced into prostitution? They are not able to exercise their right to leave that sphere and lifestyle. These victims are the main imputation against justifying the sphere of sexual services. Some people regard any woman as a potential prostitute, e. g. in Schopenhauerââ¬â¢s Studies in Pessimism we may read ââ¬â in the chapter ââ¬Å"On womenâ⬠ââ¬â the statements like ââ¬Å"it is also revolting that she [a woman] should spend her husbandââ¬â¢s money with her paramours ââ¬â the money for which he toiled his whole life long, in the consoling belief that he was providing for his childrenâ⬠and other ones emphasizing the base intentions and motives of the women (62-75). Although such statements are grounded on his experience, such generalizations are unfair, and they insult the dominant majority of women. The inevitability of prostitution, the fact that ââ¬Å"street sweeps do not reduce prostitutionâ⬠(Petrocelli), the legalization of brothels in Nevada (Powers) are not a reason to stop limiting and struggling with this detestable phenomenon of our life. It is far from being ââ¬Å"victimlessâ⬠(Goldman 92) and even those who are willingly engaged in such services do not feel safe as their basic rights are being constantly infringed (Slayton). Prostitution is a serious deviation from the natural demands and needs of women, it deprives them of matrimony, they do not experience the happiness of maternity, they are even bereft of a chance to be independent singles making real free choice at every moment of their life ââ¬â what to do, where to go, when to have free time and the like. Beyond prostitution, a woman faces a prospect of multifarious lifestyles, manifold occupations and hobbies, various possibilities. Direct opposite is the life in the street ââ¬â a dull, routine slavery that destroys both body and soul, and inflicts harm to the people around.
